Will Movers Take Things in Bags?

Since our inception many years ago, it's safe to say we've just about seen it all when it comes to moving home in London. And as a result, there's always that slight trepidation that goes through every Movers mind before the door opens, usually along the lines of... 'what's the packing going to be like and how easy is it going to be to carry the stuff to the van'..?

When we say bags are okay, let's keep it reasonable guys!

During the packing phase of your move, many things will go through your mind, like...do I need to empty the drawers, or where can I get some free boxes, or in this case... will the Movers be okay with everything being packed in bags?

So the most important thing is when it comes to bags.. are we talking big heavy duty bin bags that you've put all your fiddly bits and pieces and general soft stuff in (good) or is it more a case of every little shopping bag, handbag, or whatever else you can scrape together (definitely not so good).

To give you an example of how moving primarily with bags can quickly go 'Pete Tong', there was an occasion when a Mover was confronted with a sea of little bags of all shapes and sizes and none of them suitable for the weight of the stuff inside them, spread all over the floor.

It was a nightmare to behold, for any Mover, and it took much longer to get loaded up (and unloaded afterwards) than it should have done had big bin bags been employed.

Big bin bags are good

We always recommend to use proper moving boxes as much as possible (without over-filling with books etc making them almost impossible to carry) but bin bags have their place too. They're great for clothes and other soft items that don't really need to go in a box.

We've even moved customers where literally everything has been put in bin bags, and it can work to a point. Again, as with boxes, just don't overfill them so the bottom rips out. Basic common sense, but it can and does happen.

So what's the take away of the bag scenario.

It's a thumbs up from us on the bag front, just don't overdo it and please whatever you do, don't use a load of little shopping bags. If you're going to bag it, do it the sensible way and get a pack of strong bin bags with tie handles to put all the pesky bits and pieces you don't know what else to do with.
